"First" first day of school

Yesterday, Brooks went to his first day of Parents Day Out!  what a big boy!
He really seemed to have a good time and didn't cry when we got there.  After an open house involving lots of tears and clinging to mommy's leg, I wasn't sure what to expect.  The teachers prepare us that sometimes week two can be harder than week one so i'll hold back any confidence just yet!
Brooks was most excited about taking his snack with him to school and started eating it before we left the house!

Crooked Creek

This past weekend it was so much fun to take Brooks (and Richard) to Young Life camp for the first time.  We had a leadership weekend with about 400 other volunteers and staff from Colorado at Crooked Creek Ranch in Fraser, CO.  Richard couldn't come for the whole time but was able to join us on Saturday for a beautiful day in the mountains.

Brooks wanted to drive the Ridge Runners right out of the place.
Of course, we found the basketball court quite a few times.
And also the sand volleyball - so much fun at camp!

It's a ...

GIRL!!!
We could hardly believe it last night when we opened our "famous" envelope to find out the gender of baby fuq #2.  we were both picturing a little boy for some reason but are thrilled to know it's going to be a little girl.  i am finally not going to be so outnumbered by the boys!

the envelope please
we were both pretty surprised when it was pink!  daddy is a little nervous about a little girl but as mimi said..."he will be putty in her hands."
does this mean i get to start shopping?

what a day!  january here we come!

a fuquay tradition

Fuquay Family Vacation 2010 - Breckenridge, Colorado

what a fun week with all the fuquays in colorado - so relaxing.  We watched a movie, played quite a few games of Catan, ate like kings, played golf twice and enjoyed walking in town most days.  the boys also did a 14er (Gray's Peak)!
all the boys with their polo ponies :)
the highest tee box in north america!  we had so much fun playing at Copper Creek again - what a beautiful course!

if you're going to san francisco...

a little late posting these pics, but we had a great weekend away in san francisco last month.  a big thanks to nana and grandpa phil for coming out to denver to stay with little brooks so we could have a weekend away - what a treat!
we celebrated devin and mandi at Half Moon Bay (just southwest of San Fran). This is the view from the outdoor ceremony at the Ritz Carlton - so great!

all the fuquays at the wedding

so fun to spend the weekend with the Browns too!

so many friends to catch up with from dallas (high school and med school)

on Sunday, we stopped in Saucilito and had fun looking at all the boats

we loved driving through san fran - we did the golden gate bridge, lombard street and drove all over the place!

18 months

and the months just keep flying by!
i wanted to get down some of the highlights of Brooks at 18 months before i forget what fun things he is doing right now.
the details:
26 pounds - 52%
34.74 inches tall - 97%
walking for sure and starting to "run"
still sleeps 8 to 8 and takes 2 naps for a total of 15-16 hours sleeping a day!
when he's not sleeping he loves to eat, kick balls, play outside, ride in his new wagon, swim and do puzzles.

favorite foods:  animal crackers (he woke up one night from a dead sleep and this is what he wanted!), soy milk, blueberries and all kinds of fruit.  he goes in and out of loving his "little green trees" (broccoli).  as we get better at using the fork and spoon, dinner time is getting very messy (especially with pasta!)

brooks doesn't have too many words at the moment - still says "yeah" to almost everything - he has learned to make a frowny face and shake his head emphatically when he wants to say no.  everything else pretty much sounds like dada and the occasional mama.
we have definitely entered into the early stages of independence - brooks wants to do everything by himself first - get to the car, climb out the front step, carry things, put on his shoes...it is certainly a lesson in patience.

and finally, i hope we always remember how sweet he still is at this age.  he "gives kisses" to mommy and daddy before bed, loves to lay down on the floor with dirk dog and gives richard a running hug when he gets home from work.  we are so thankful for our happy little boy!
i couldn't resist putting in this pic of brooks making himself comfortable in the baby seat.
he has another thing coming in january!

80's throwback

a tribute to all you Chimney Lakes girls who read the blog...does this shirt look familiar?
Richard and I played in our 5th Wooden Open here in Denver - a wooden racket tennis tournament put on by some friends out here.  What a fun afternoon & evening!
We didn't make it quite as far as we did last year, but we had a great time and Brooks was such a trooper.  It was the hottest day in two years out here - 102 degrees!
Other than wearing my tennis shirt from about 1988, the highlight of the night was Richard scaling and falling over a fence in the middle of a point to try to make an incredible return!  (and you say i'm the competitive one this this house!)
