Crooked Creek

This past weekend it was so much fun to take Brooks (and Richard) to Young Life camp for the first time.  We had a leadership weekend with about 400 other volunteers and staff from Colorado at Crooked Creek Ranch in Fraser, CO.  Richard couldn't come for the whole time but was able to join us on Saturday for a beautiful day in the mountains.

Brooks wanted to drive the Ridge Runners right out of the place.
Of course, we found the basketball court quite a few times.
And also the sand volleyball - so much fun at camp!

a fuquay tradition

Fuquay Family Vacation 2010 - Breckenridge, Colorado

what a fun week with all the fuquays in colorado - so relaxing.  We watched a movie, played quite a few games of Catan, ate like kings, played golf twice and enjoyed walking in town most days.  the boys also did a 14er (Gray's Peak)!
all the boys with their polo ponies :)
the highest tee box in north america!  we had so much fun playing at Copper Creek again - what a beautiful course!

Summer Fun

This summer Brooks is really enjoying all his new favorite "sports."  He is getting so active and animated.
Basketball is still the #1 sport of choice.

Swimming is coming in a close second.  After 3 straight days at the pool last week Brooks likes to dunk under the water, "jump" off the side into my arms, and "swim" around kicking his legs while I hold him up.  After a little while in the big pool though, he likes to go back to the baby pool and just play with the toys.

"Golfing" - aka swinging clubs around like crazy in the backyard and hitting any ball that's available - is also a daily activity!  We are working on keeping the clubs on the ground, but i think we have a long way to go until he is ready for the course!
Yesterday, we went with some friends down to Garden of the Gods Park for a little bit of hiking and touring.  Richard was a trooper carrying Brooks on his back for 2 hours!
Happy 4th Everyone!

almost a 14er

Another awesome day in the mountains!

With little sleep, we hit I-70 this morning to get an early start hiking Grey's Peak (just west of Georgetown, Colorado). Grey's Peak is one of about 50 14,000 foot mountains in Colorado (14ers) and would be the first ever for andrea (and arnie), but not for richard (or dirk)!

The route proved to be rougher, steeper, longer, snowier, rockier, and just plain harder than andrea had expected...but after about 4 hours on the trail we made it to about 13,500 feet. While not quite to the summit still an awesome day.

The views from the top were absolutely incredible - we were looking down on other "big" mountains and even saw a mountain goat fairly close up. The snow was up to our knees in places and the trail was often icy, and we can't wait to make another 14er attempt later this summer.
